The 2024 season was one to remember for the Denver Broncos. Not only did the team clinch their first playoff birth since 2015, but they also found their next franchise quarterback in Bo Nix.
Despite having the best rookie season that a Broncos quarterback has ever had, three-time Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Ed McCaffrey had some high praise for Denver’s new franchise quarterback.
While speaking to the team, McCaffrey was asked what makes Nix such a special quarterback.
“He (Nix) had a lot of experience in college. He can throw every route in the playbook.” McCaffrey continued, “One of the things that I know, is a point of emphasis with Sean Payton is he didn’t want to take sacks, he didn’t want to lose yards. He (Nix) was one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the NFL this year.”
Nix, one of the least sacked players during his final season at Oregon, was sacked just 24 times this year for the Broncos while starting in all 17 regular season games.
“I think as a rookie, he had one of the best rookie seasons in a long time for any quarterback,” the former Broncos wide receiver said.
In his first year, Nix threw the sixth most touchdowns in the NFL. The rookie had more passing touchdowns than Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jordan Love, Jayden Daniels, and Justin Herbert.
Nix also ranked 12th in passing yards ahead of Matthew Stafford, C.J. Stroud, Allen, and Daniels.
“He had a maturity kind of beyond his years, but he also has a really high level of skill. He throws a great football, he throws a tight spiral, he gets rid of the ball on time, and he puts it in a place where you can catch it and run through your catch and make plays.”
With the outstanding play from Nix that helped lead the Broncos to 10 wins and a playoff birth for the first time since Peyton Manning was tossing touchdowns, it’s safe to say this team is closer to a Lombardi Trophy than most people realize.
