Former Bruins superstar continues postseason dominance with two spectacular goals

When Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney had a deadline fire sale, he put his former captain, Brad Marchand, in a position to win another Stanley Cup championship. Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers, who are looking to hoist their second straight Stanley Cup title.

After blowing a three-goal lead in Game 4 at home on Thursday night and losing, 5-4, in overtime to even the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece, a pivotal Game 5 was Saturday night in Edmonton, with the Oilers regaining home ice advantage. As we have learned the last couple of postseasons, playing on the road doesn't faze the Panthers or Marchand.

Marchand has been one of the best players in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and he has turned into the best trade deadline move of any team. Florida acquired him for depth and his experience, and now, he's coming up big time for the Panthers. He scored two of the first three Florida goals in Game 5 as they built a 3-0 lead, but this time, they held onto the lead and picked up a 5-2 win and now head home with a chance to win the Stanley Cup on Tuesday night.

Marchand opened the scoring just short of the midway point of the opening period when he collected the puck off a face-off at center ice and broke between the two Edmonton defensemen and scored on Calvin Pickard. After Sam Bennett doubled the lead late in the period, Marchand struck again in the third period.

Marchand again was able to split through the Oilers' defensemen and beat Pickard for a 3-0 lead. Don't look now, but Marchand has 10 playoff goals in this run for the Panthers and is one win away from hoisting the Stanley Cup again, while also making sure he collects one more huge payday this summer in free agency.
