The Pittsburgh Steelers trading for Justin Fields was one of the most noteworthy moves of the NFL offseason, and one that will garner even more attention once training camp and preseason competition begins.
The Chicago Bears traded the former first-round pick to the Steelers for a sixth-round pick that could be come a fourth in the 2025 NFL Draft.
While Fields is one of the most exciting quarterbacks in football due to his ability to break off big runs, one of his former coaches in Chicago had a lot to say about his shortcomings.
In Tyler Dunne’s series on the Bears’ dysfunction over the last several years on Go Long, he spoke with one of Fields’ former coaches from Chicago had a lot to say.
“Watch his eyes,” the anonymous coach said. “He tries to see the whole thing and doesn’t see anything. His eyes are all over the place and it’s just really hard to watch. It’s just bad football.”
The anonymous coach also said that Fields would be “A great single-wing quarterback if that was still around.”
The biggest critique on Fields has been his ability to process. While the scheme in Pittsburgh, as well as the overall stability compared to the chaos in Chicago should help, Fields will have a lot to prove.
