Former Dodgers Slugger and Six-Time All-Star Named Retire Candidate

During the 2023 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers saw the benefits of having J.D. Martinez on their roster.

Martinez was 35 years old at the time and was aging, but he swung it with the best of them during his time with the Dodgers, hitting 33 home runs and posting a 136 OPS+.

Moving on from him was the right decision due to his age and the other guys the Dodgers brought in during that time, but he did what he had to do for Los Angeles, and that's been a constant throughout his career.

A career 131 OPS+ hitter with 331 home runs, there aren't many hitters like the Nova Southeastern product.

However, teams clearly don't value him like they once did, as he's still without a team with spring training already starting.

That could be a bad sign for Martinez, with Michael Monreal of Just Baseball naming him one of five former All-Stars who might have to call it a career due to his seemingly limited market.

"While his bat could still be useful in a part-time, platoon role, the demand for an aging, one-dimensional player is nowhere near what it used to be. Martinez could very likely be given one more shot, but if he doesn't capitalize, it could be the end of the road for the long-time slugger," Monreal wrote.

Martinez returning to the Dodgers is less than 0%, but he should find a team in the near future.

Unless something behind the scenes isn't known, he's worthy of getting a big league camp invite.
