Former Eagles guard Mekhi Becton proves change of scenery can do a world of good

We often say that a change of scenery can make a world of difference. Often, we do so with our fingers crossed, but then, we're let down. Same results... Same disappointment... Same failure... The truth is you can't make guys want it. They either step up or they don't. Mekhi Becton is one of the success stories. He wasn't with the Philadelphia Eagles long, but we're glad he stopped by.

Before his arrival, all we knew was he was labeled as injury prone and there were issues between him and the NY Jets team that drafted him. We knew he had been given up on by those same Jets. That alone is a mouthful. What makes the lowly Jets feel like they have a right to give up on anyone?

Becton caught Jeff Stoutland's eye, and from what we understand, the G.O.A.T. wanted an opportunity to coach him. Mekhi was granted that second chance, and he made the most of it. That isn't an exaggeration.

Honestly, we initially thought his ceiling was being some sort of backup swing tackle. That was if he made the roster. Well, he made the squad, and Nick Sirianni had an idea, move him to guard.

Stout listened, and Becton supplanted second-year Bird and expected starter Tyler Steen, relegating him to backup duty.

The rest as they say is history. We wouldn't have believed this was possible two years ago, but Mekhi will forever be remembered as part of an Eagles team that won a Super Bowl, but as quickly as he came he is gone. He's taking his talent out west.

Mekhi Becton joins the AFC West's Los Angeles Chargers.

Reportedly, Philly and Becton couldn't get on the same page about a contract extension. He was allowed to test free agency. It was theorized he'd land in the AFC South, but instead, he heads out west.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, he lands with the Los Angeles Chargers.

His new deal covers two years, and you know what? We're happy for him. We wish him luck.

He's now charged with looking after Justin Herbert and learning all he can from Jim Harbaugh. Plus, the warm weather will help the body heal from some of those nicks and bruises.
