Former General Manager Tells Jets How To Handle Aaron Rodgers Situation

Aaron Rodgers has not yet announced if he'll play in the NFL next season. If he holds off on retirement, the New York Jets will have an interesting decision to make.

Former General Manager Tells Jets How To Handle Aaron Rodgers Situation

In his first full season as the starting quarterback of the Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. There were moments where he turned back the clock and looked like an MVP-caliber quarterback. Unfortunately for New York, that didn't result in many wins.

After the 2024 regular season came to an end, Rodgers said he'd take a break before deciding if he'll play. The Jets, meanwhile, interviewed a handful of candidates for their openings at head coach and general manager.

One of the candidates for the general manager vacancy, Thomas Dimitroff, revealed what he told the Jets during his interview.

During an interview on Radio Row this Tuesday, Dimitroff said he doesn't think Rodgers should return to the Jets this fall. However, he believes the veteran quarterback can still sling it.

"My pitch was that this guy is one of the best players to play in the game," Dimitroff said. "I recognize that ... Aaron Rodgers can still make plays. Aaron Rodgers can still win for a team. Aaron Rodgers can make throws while adjusting and do things that are very special, and I still think it is time for them to move on. Maybe he goes somewhere else for a couple of years and helps a team develop a guy. I don't think it should be in New York."

Dimitroff was the general manager of the Atlanta Falcons from 2008-2020. It's unclear how close he was to landing the job in New York.

While it's fascinating to hear Dimitroff's take on Rodgers, all that really matters is whether or not the current regime for the Jets believes in the veteran signal-caller.

We'll see if Jets general manager Darren Mougey keeps Rodgers or tells him to leave town.
