There’s a new sheriff in town for the New York Jets, and he could be the second coming of Rex Ryan if one analyst is to be believed.

Former NFL quarterback loved what he saw from New York Jets head coach, compared him to Rex Ryan

The New York Jets have finally landed a new head coach. Last week, the Jets announced the signing of former cornerback Aaron Glenn.

The move seemed to impress many people, as fans were thrilled with the signing of Aaron Glenn. The first-time head coach was a key part of their franchise during their last successful stretch in the league.

Former Steelers star AJ Hawk believes Glenn can help change the culture of the Jets. A cultural change is desperately needed in New York.

But after his first press conference with the team, another former NFL star believes Glenn can bring success to the Jets like Rex Ryan.

Speaking on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, Former NFL QB and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky spoke about what impressed him from Aaron Glenn’s first press conference as New York Jets head coach.

Orlovsky noted that his comments, specifically surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the success of their team, showed his mentality being strong. He added that Glenn’s comments were similar to what Rex Ryan said when he first took over the Jets in 2014.

“His press conference felt like it was Rex Ryan all over again when Rex took them to multiple AFC championship games.”

“The bravado, the Moxey, the edge, the swagger, the confidence, the unapologetic pride that is very unique when you’re an ex-player for an organization.”

“It felt like that Rex mentality of ‘We’re coming after you’ rather than ‘We’re going to slowly do this the right way’… I love the fact that he’s been part of a rebuild.”

Orlovsky isn’t the only former player to praise the new Jets coach. Reggie Bush called Aaron Glenn’s appointment the ultimate testament from the New York Jets.

What can Glenn do for the Jets?

As mentioned above, one of Orlovsky’s biggest green flags for Glenn was the fact that he was part of a rebuild.

Aaron Glenn was the Defensive Coordinator of the Detroit Lions from 2021 till this past year when they went from one of the weakest teams in the NFL to one of the best teams in the NFC last season.

As the DC, he helped the Lions turn into the second-best rushing defense in the entire league. And with the tools he will have on the Jets, who were one of the best defensive teams for the last few years.

Glenn can be the next transformative coach for the Jets. Especially if he can figure out how to use Aaron Rodgers in the best way possible.
