Former Packers Midseason Steal Delivers Blunt Message About Possible Reunion

Rasul Douglas quickly became a fan favorite in Green Bay after the Packers signed him off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in October 2021. His first signature moment came in Week 8 when he intercepted Kyler Murray on the final play of the game to seal a road win over the then-undefeated Cardinals.

Douglas went on to record a career-high five interceptions that year, followed by four more in 2022. He opened the 2023 season as a starter in Green Bay’s secondary but was traded midseason to the Buffalo Bills, where he finished the 2023 campaign and played through the 2024 season.

The former Packers cornerback is currently a free agent. With Green Bay thin on depth at the position, adding an experienced player like Douglas could make sense as a reunion. When asked, Douglas weighed in on the possibility, giving a measured and straightforward response.

“Don’t think that will happen buddy,” Douglas wrote in a post on X.

Another fan said that he hopes Douglas will return to Green Bay, and the former Green Bay Packer responded with a funny comment.

"They got Bo melton," Douglas wrote.

Douglas is referring to the cornerback experiment Green Bay conducted with wide receiver Bo Melton during mandatory minicamp. The Packers added Nate Hobbs via free agency and Micah Robinson in the draft. However, the Melton experiment shows they are still exploring solutions for the secondary—even if it is only for emergency depth.

The Packers better hope that Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon, and Carrington Valentine can stay healthy this season because if any of them go down, the cornerback group will be even thinner than it already is. The few moves Green Bay made to improve their cornerback room suggest a belief in internal growth and a strong trust in Jeff Hafley’s ability to develop talent from within.

Still, the NFL can be an unpredictable business sometimes, and while Douglas has his reasons to doubt a reunion, a midseason return could make sense—especially given his familiarity with the system, his experience under Matt LaFleur, and the connections he already has on the defense.
