Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver lands with Baltimore Ravens in shrewd move

The Baltimore Ravens have claimed former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson off waivers. Baltimore released Johnson three weeks ago, but that will not factor into this move.

Johnson does not need to step into the Ravens facility ever again, and he may not. The Ravens will not be awarded Johnson’s rights until after the Super Bowl, so no team can land him again this season. On top of that, if Johnson signs a contract elsewhere that is big enough for a compensatory pick, the Ravens could be awarded a free pick.

The Houston Texans cut Johnson on Tuesday after an outburst in the locker room following the team’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Johnson was not happy with his usage once again.

Since Week 8, he has just four receptions. The Carolina Panthers moved on from him quickly after the Steelers traded him this March.

Johnson was drafted by the team in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent five seasons with the team before they traded him. He was in the last year of a two-year contract this year. Now, he hopes he can find a new team this offseason.
