The New Orleans Saints got some unique news about one of their former players this week.
Chris Banjo interviews with 49ers
The former Saints defensive back and special teams player has interviewed to be the new special teams coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
The #49ers interviewed #Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo for their ST coordinator job, sources say. Two years into his coaching career after an 10-year stint as a DB and special teamer, Banjo is getting looks to advance. pic.twitter.com/17tWrhCZp2

The former NFL veteran joins Chris Tabor, Jett Modkins, and Nick Sorensen as assistants interviewed for the position.
Banjo joined Sean Payton's coaching staff in 2023 as an assistant special teams coach. He spent multiple seasons with New Orleans as a player from 2016-2018. He finished his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Saints will play the 49ers next season during the regular season. It could be a cool reunion moment for Banjo if he does land the job this offseason.
Hopefully for the 49ers, Sorensen refuses to coach special teams and they hire either Banjo or Modkins. Because Sorensen needs to leave and start over elsewhere. Keeping him around would be a bad look. It would seem as though Shanahan was giving special treatment to a friend after banishing Steve Wilks the year before. -- Grant Cohn
If he's hired by San Francisco, he will supply a ton of experience to their staff when it comes to a playing career.
Banjo played over 2,600 snaps on special teams during his NFL career, between four different teams. He totaled 143 tackles, one forced fumble, three interceptions, and a defensive touchdown during his playing career that lasted nearly a decade in the pros.
