Former Steelers Coach Doesn’t Hold Back About Aaron Rodgers

The 2025 NFL season is starting to creep up quickly. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is a major need to figure out who the starting quarterback is going to be and to receive final word from Aaron Rodgers on his decision about his playing future.

Over the last few months, the Steelers have been consistently linked to Rodgers. He's still expected to sign with the team, but has been in no rush to do so.

Pittsburgh passed on taking a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft. Will Howard was drafted in the sixth round, but will need some time to develop. Outside of Howard, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph on the roster.

Rodgers, on the other hand, has been dealing with some personal matters during the offseason. He has been open about the fact that he's focusing on those things before making his final decision about playing football.

With training camp set to begin in late July, some kind of news is expected about the 41-year-old quarterback in the near future.

One former Pittsburgh coach has spoken out about Rodgers. Todd Haley, the team's former offensive coordinator, believes that the future Hall of Fame signal caller is the guy that the Steelers need.

"I still believe, like I said all along, he's the best option for the Steelers for the situation they're in at this time. Maybe he signs, maybe he doesn't. If he does sign, maybe it looks great, maybe it looks average," Haley said. "I still think it's the best option and one I'd be willing to take a risk on knowing you only get so many shots at this. You've got a really good defense. You've got one of the best head coaches in the league. You now have an offensive coordinator who I think is really good at what he does, especially for that team."

Haley went on to discuss Rodgers' 2024 season with the New York Jets. He doesn't see any reason to worry about the veteran quarterback.

"What was going on in New York was very disturbing to me too many times," Haley said. "Whether it was coordinator, how the head coach handled situations, how Aaron was allowed to handle the whole situation. I'm gonna lean on that and say he doesn't have to be Aaron Rodgers from 10 years ago, but I saw enough last year."

Speaking of the 2024 season, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while completing 63 percent of his passes. Those numbers would help power Pittsburgh into being a potential contender in the AFC.

Expect to hear more reports and rumors circulating about Rodgers. His decision is likely coming in the near future. The Steelers are still expected to sign him, but fans are anxious due to how long the situation has continued on.
