Former Steelers Receiver And Division Rival Jacoby Jones Found Dead

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Jacoby Jones has unfortunately been found dead at the age of 40. Jones was most known for his time with the Baltimore Ravens, where he was a key factor in their Super Bowl XLVII victory as he scored two touchdowns in the game. Jones also suited up for Pittsburgh, spending part of the 2015 season in the black and gold.

The former All-Pro was one of the more exciting players in the league during his career. He often exploded for exciting kickoff returns, while also making plays on the offensive side of the ball as a receiver. He had his best season in 2012, when he was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro. Jones passing was announced on Sunday, after celebrating his 40th birthday three days prior.

In 2017, Jones announced his retirement as a member of the Ravens, and he has since been a fairly successful coach at multiple colleges. He started his coaching career at Lane College, but eventually wound up at Morgan State. He coached the tight ends there in 2021 before becoming the wide receivers coach at Alabama State.

The wide receiver was one of the main reasons Baltimore even made it to Super Bowl XLVII. He scored a crucial touchdown at the end of Baltimore's Divisional Round matchup with the Denver Broncos.

Jones' time with the Steelers wasn't long, as he only played for the organization for four weeks. He was released from the then-San Diego Chargers in the middle of the 2015 season, and the Steelers then picked him up off waivers. Pittsburgh released him only a month and a half later.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin Had An Infamous Incident With Jacoby Jones

Jones made a lot of plays against the Steelers while he was a member of the Ravens, but his most memorable play involved Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Tomlin. During the 2013 season, Pittsburgh and Baltimore squared off. Jones returned a kickoff for 73 yards, but it should have been a guaranteed touchdown. As jones was racing down the sideline, Tomlin stepped out onto the field, which caused Jones to change his course and eventually get tackled.

A lot was said after the incident, with many assuming what Tomlin did was intentional. As if Tomlin was trying to trip a player on the field on purpose. Tomlin has since said he was watching the play on the scoreboard, and simply didn't think he was on the same sideline that Jones was running down.

The NFL world will miss Jones. He has an impressive career to look back on, but what's more impressive was the way he jumped right into coaching to help others. It seemed to be a passion of his, and he even managed to produce an All-American while coaching at Morgan State.
