Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith earned an impressive NFL honor this week.
On Thursday, Smith, who is in his fourth season with the Kansas City Chiefs, was named to the NFL Pro Bowl for the first time in his professional football career.
Oddly enough, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the player that Smith protects on a weekly basis, was not named to the Pro Bowl this season. It's the first time since Mahomes' rookie season in 2017 (when the future Hall of Fame quarterback barely played) that he hasn't been named as a Pro Bowler.
Smith has been a mainstay at offensive guard for the Chiefs since entering the league in 2021. The former Vol has started 76 games for Kansas City (including the playoffs) since the Chiefs selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
There's a good chance that this could be Smith's final season in Kansas City. The Tennessee native is set to be a free agent after the 2024 season and the expectation is that he will become the highest paid guard in the NFL, which makes it unlikely that the Chiefs will be able to re-sign him.
