Details of Jaylin Lane's rookie contract have been released
Jaylin Lane transferred from Middle Tennessee State University to Virginia Tech in part to showcase his talents at the P4 level. After two seasons in Blacksburg where he accounted for over 1,000 yards of offense and ten total touchdowns (eight receiving and two on punt returns), Lane heard his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With the 128th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Lane was selected by the Washington Commanders.
Over the weekend, the former Hokie signed his first NFL contract with the Commanders, inking a four-year deal that, according to Spotrac, totals $5,113,852 with a signing bonus of $913,852.
The signing bonus is fully guaranteed.
"Being an NFL player has been a dream since I was a kid and making that decision to transfer was ultimately to elevate myself so I could continue to challenge myself."
According to the contract breakdown, Lane will receive a base salary of $840,000 for the 2025 season and is structured to increase in each of the next three seasons, earning $1,005,000 in 2026, $1,120,000 in 2027, and $1,235,000 in 2028.
"He is a guy that we were really excited about, organizationally, across the board," general manager Lance Newmark said. "Just someone that we were really, really excited about. We had a vision for him, and he was the highest player on our board when we got to that point. It really was kind of a stressful wait from noon until whenever we finally picked because just a lot of stress and...hope that he was going to be there for us."
"He just does a lot of great things," Newmark said. "He really helped himself in the spring with his testing numbers. Really was explosive, ran really fast, jumped really high and far. Just a guy that we're really excited about. He has a unique instinct with the ball in his hands. He's got a nose for the sticks on first downs. He's got a unique return skillset."
