Four Lions make first-team All-Pro, including Kerby Joseph
Four Detroit Lions have been voted first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press, including one who got a little vindication after a Pro Bowl snub.
Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, right tackle Penei Sewell, safety Kerby Joseph and punter Jack Fox were all named first-teamers when the teams were unveiled Friday.
St. Brown and Sewell have now both made back-to-back All-Pro first teams just four seasons into their NFL careers. Fox earned his first first-team nod in his fifth season in the league (he was a second-teamer as a rookie), while Joseph earned his first selection in his third year.
Joseph’s selection comes after he wasn’t picked to the Pro Bowl, leading defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to suggest Joseph’s reputation played a role in the snub. Joseph led the NFL with nine interceptions.
Fox averaged 46.2 net yards per punt, an NFL record. He joins Jim Arnold (1987) and the only All-Pro punters in Lions history.
St. Brown led the Lions with 115 receptions and 1,263 receiving yards, with 12 touchdowns.
The AP All-Pro team is selected based on a vote from 50 media members. The Pro Bowl is picked by a mix of fans, players and coaches.
Center Frank Ragnow and punt returner Kalif Raymond both earned spots on the second team. Raymond’s honor is the second of his 10-year career, while Ragnow’s is his third.
