Four Red Sox Newcomers More Than Doing Their Jobs Despite Team Struggles

The Boston Red Sox remain around the .500 mark at 22-23 on the season.

Four Red Sox Newcomers Doing Their Jobs Despite Team Struggles

That’s really hard to fathom at times in the team’s inability to break that trend of the last three full seasons. The fact that Boston’s new players in 2025 have been exceptional makes the .500 mark even more puzzling.

The Red Sox are lucky for a still relatively open American League and have time to fix the repeating, concerning trends of the first six weeks of the season. With that said, Boston cannot ask for much more from this quartet of additions to the roster.

Here’s the reality about the four main newcomers for the Red Sox:

Alex Bregman
2025 Stats: .314/.392/.589, .981 OPS, 11 HR, 33 RBI, 31 R, 26 XBH, 18 BBG
Bregman is a bona fide MVP candidate enjoying his best offensive season in more than half a decade.

The Red Sox third baseman sets the tone in the clubhouse. His defense can keep the infield at ease (though there’s room for group improvement). Most importantly, he meets the moment at the plate and does so with a recent power surge.

There’s literally nothing more the Red Sox can ask from Alex Bregman in his first season in Boston.

Kristian Campbell
2025 Stats: .246/.337/.408, .746 OPS, 5 HR, 15 RBI, 19 R, 13 XBH, 20 BB
Now, these numbers don’t pop after a tough 10 days in May.

But this is still the American League Rookie of the Month from April we’re talking about.

Campbell continues to look more comfortable at second base, and his bat makes an impact. Look no further than his inside-out swing that gave the Red Sox a two-run lead Tuesday night in Detroit.

He’s stable at second base, and the bat will keep improving. That works for Boston.

Garrett Crochet
2025 Stats: 4-2, 1.93 ERA, 9 GS, 56.0 IP, 65 K, 21 BB, 10.4 K/9
Crochet is an ace, and he’s certainly pitching like one.

There have been patches of walks and inefficiency that have held him back, so there’s still another level, which is highly encouraging for the Red Sox rotation. If not for several top arms around the American League, Crochet may have been the early favorite to start the All-Star Game.

Crochet sits in the top 10 around the league in ERA and the top three in strikeouts.
