Fox Sports Honors Underrated Saints Star on NFL 2020s Half-Decade Team

An underrated star on the New Orleans Saints is finally getting his flowers.

Fox Sports released their NFL 2020s half-decade team, with Saints special teams ace J.T. Gray making his way on the list.

Gray, 29, has been a member of the Saints since 2018 after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. The former Mississippi State Bulldogs' defensive back appeared in five games for New Orleans as a rookie before being released and re-signed to the practice squad. In 2019, the Saints signed Gray to a futures deal, and he has remained on the roster ever since.

The standout gunner has earned several awards for his elite play on special teams, most notably a first-team All-Pro nod in 2021 and second-team All-Pro nods in both 2019 and 2024. Gray was also named a Pro Bowler in 2021.

Fox is brief when naming Gray's spot on the team, but heavily focuses on the veteran's accolades and absurd 1,691 special team snaps over a five-year span. Gray's availability undoubtedly plays a large part in his accomplishments.

In Gray's 1,691 special team snaps, he has accumulated 103 tackles and a forced fumble while recovering 3 fumbles of his own. While he has seen minimal play time on the team's starting defense, he has also added 2.5 sacks and a pass deflection.

Gray has been an underrated player for New Orleans and is often only talked bout by local media, but as his elite play continues, the former undrafted free agent is beginning to earn his flowers.
