One game certainly doesn't make an NFL team's entire regular season. The San Francisco 49ers, leading the NFC West despite a 3-3 record, will have many issues to address going forward no matter what happens in Week 7.
Some matchups really do loom much larger than most in the minds of players, though, and it's safe to say Sunday's highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch between the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs fits that bill.
San Francisco linebacker Fred Warner discussed the game during Tuesday's edition of "Murph and Marcus" on KNBR 680, explaining why he's feeling extra motivated to battle Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending champions once again.
"The Chiefs are undefeated this year and still at the top of their game and they've still got 15 back there and I have yet to beat them," Warner said, per Taylor Wirth of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I think I played against him maybe four times now and have let to beat him so I think it's an important game for us to try and get over the hump and get this win."
The three-time First All-Pro honoree, unsurprisingly, isn't wrong about his ugly track record facing off with Mahomes.
Kansas City beat San Francisco during the regular season in both 2018 and 2022, but more importantly dashed Warner's dreams of raising the Vince Lombardi Trophy last February and four years earlier in Super Bowl LIV.
Sunday's game represents a golden opportunity for the 49ers to right the ship for good this season, re-establishing themselves as the premier team in the NFC. What a nice cherry-on-top finally taking down the Chiefs would be for Warner and company.
Kansas City and San Francisco are set to kickoff from Levi's Stadium at 4:25 p.m. (ET).
