Game of Detroit Lions black uniform debut revealed

This offseason, the Detroit Lions revamped their entire uniforms, and without a doubt, the one that generated the most buzz was the return of black uniforms. Inspired, in part, by the 2000s Lions—which featured Dan Campbell as a player—the all-black look earned the highest percentage of “love it” votes of all the new uniform looks in our poll ran in April.

Well, we finally know when the Lions will actually wear those uniforms for the first time.

On Monday, the Lions teased that it may happen this week with this social media post.

In fact, if you look at Detroit’s entire Twitter profile, it’s been accented with the black uniform look, which the Lions officially call “Motor City Muscle.”

Of course, that only hints at the Lions wearing the uniform this week. It doesn’t confirm it.

But Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network spilled the beans during his Monday podcast.

“The black jerseys are coming out next week for their debut,” Rogers said, while also teasing a report about the second game in which they’ll wear the uniform combo. “I’ve been sitting on that for a week. I was going to write a story, probably still will, because I also know the second game they’re wearing them.”

The Lions will don the uniforms on their 2024 “Monday Night Football” debut in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. Including playoff games, Detroit has lost six straight to Seattle, so maybe this will bring them extra luck.
