The New York Jets have worked their way through one Garrett Wilson-related controversy.

Who's ready for another?

One that may have changed the course of the franchise forever.

As New York stumbled through a dismal 2024, rumors ran rampant about the team's top wide receiver Wilson being at odds with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The rumors mushroomed so much that some reports stated Wilson would want to request a trade from Gang Green if Rodgers was back on the roster for 2025.

New York won't have to worry about any trade request from their top receiver anymore as the Jets intentions are to move on from Rodgers.

So, is everybody happy? On that particular front, it seems so.

"Rodgers' departure greatly increases the chances of Garrett Wilson's return," ESPN's Rich Cimini wrote recently. Cimini later cited "tension" between the two that went back all the way to training camp this past offseason and bubbled back up later in the year.

So, is everybody happy on the financial front?

That remains to be seen, as now comes a report that Wilson is angling for a massive raise on an early extension before the team decides on his fifth-year option.

According to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, what Wilson wants is (gulp! $30 million annually on a new contract.

That number is the going rate for a superstar wide receiver. So Jets fans surely have no issue there ... except for the part about whether Wilson, 24, qualifies as a "superstar wide receiver.''

He is the first receiver in Jets history to record over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. He is also an Offensive Rookie of the Year winner ... and maybe his production would be even greater if not for the fact that he is about to have another quarterback throwing him the ball in 2025 - his ninth different QB in just four seasons.

In the end, we suppose no one should be surprised that Wilson wants a massive raise. But we also suspect that Jets fans wish that New York giving out raises coincided with a rise in the AFC standings.
