The latest chapter in the Monsterverse is helmed by I Am Mother director Grant Sputore, while the script has been written by Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi). The exact details of the plot have not been released as of yet, but the upcoming film promises to introduce new human characters alongside the franchise’s iconic monsters, including Godzilla and Kong. The film will feature the characters in a race against time after Sputore takes over from Adam Wingard, and they face a world-ending threat.
Legendary’s Monsterverse kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla starring Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen. Since then, the franchise has spanned across several movies, including Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, alongside Netflix’s animated spin-off Skull Island and the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The upcoming untitled film in the franchise is slated for a 2027 release.
Kaitlyn Dever Shares How She Transformed Into Belle Gibson for ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’
Dever confessed that she is a longtime fan of scammer stories and loved Netflix’s 2022 limited series, Inventing Anna. However, she believes that the stakes in Apple Cider Vinegar were much higher compared to those. The actress noted how excited she was to play such a complex role and toe the very fine line between comedy and drama in her portrayal of Gibson. To perfect her role, Dever took voice and dialect lessons to get the influencer’s Australian accent right.
Gibson expressed her gratitude to showrunner Samantha Strauss for trusting her with the difficult task and giving her the opportunity to use an accent to get into character. Dever admitted that she became a little obsessed with sounding Australian and would listen to the news every night to practice. In the actress’s own words: “I was paying attention to my accent like I would musical notes and sounds.” While speaking about her character being a scammer, Dever claimed that she doesn’t see her as a villain or a hero. She believes that Gibson’s story is complex and loaded with endless twists and turns.
