The Green Bay Packers entered the 2025 NFL Draft with key needs at cornerback, wide receiver, defensive line, and offensive line. They successfully addressed all four positions, and now their focus turns to undrafted free agents to boost competition and add depth.
"There’s going to be some very competitive battles," Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after the draft. "I think it will help push us and bring the best out of everybody."
According to CheeseheadTV's undrafted free agent tracker, the Packers have signed nine players, including three offensive linemen, two running backs, a cornerback, a safety, a linebacker, and a defensive lineman. They still have some roster spots to fill. With that in mind, today Athlon Sports examines Green Bay's needs following the draft.
Cornerback
Micah Robinson, a seventh-round pick, was the Packers' only addition to the secondary through the draft. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Green Bay and Jaire Alexander are still discussing a potential resolution, which could result in Alexander remaining with the team for the 2025 season. However, there is no certainty he will stay healthy, and the secondary struggled last year when he missed time with an injury. The Packers cannot allow a lack of depth to be an issue again.
Interior Defensive Line
General manager Brian Gutekunst has expressed his commitment to Devonte Wyatt being part of the team’s future. Green Bay also drafted Warren Brinson on Day 3 and has solid rotational pieces in Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden. Still, Kenny Clark will turn 30 in October and carries a $31 million cap hit in 2026. One of the lessons from Super Bowl LIX is that a team can never have too many pass rushers, and the more bodies the Packers add in the trenches, the better positioned they will be moving forward.
Quarterback
The Packers are in a good spot with their quarterback room heading into 2025. Jordan Love is the guy, and Malik Willis has shown he can be an efficient backup in LaFleur’s system. However, Willis will enter the final year of his rookie contract next year, and Green Bay will soon need to find a new backup for Love, as Willis is likely to secure a more lucrative contract elsewhere. Gutekunst wants to continue to add to the quarterback room, and according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers have invited former Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks quarterback Taylor Elgersma to their rookie minicamp. It should only be the first step in further bolstering the position.
Rookie minicamp kicks off in May, and the Packers will take the next couple of weeks to fill out the roster and get it up to 90 players. Other positions like wide receive, interior offensive line, and tight end are also worth monitoring.
