As the Green Bay Packers get set for the 2024 season, their new running back Josh Jacobs is closing in on a wild NFL record.
This offseason, the Green Bay Packers made some big moves at the running back position. For the last few years, the running back position has been severely devalued in the NFL.
Despite that, the Green Bay Packers elected to make a big splash and sign one of the best in the league, Josh Jacobs, to a four-year deal. As a young team that has money and is close to winning, paying a running back like Jacobs made a lot of sense if he is the piece that gets them over the top.
Josh Jacobs has had a great career with the Raiders the last few seasons, however, he is nearing a wild NFL record.
It is shocking to see that Jacobs has never caught a touchdown pass in his career. With 197 receptions, Jacobs is regarded as a very good receiver out of the backfield.
In 2021 and 2022, Josh Jacobs recorded over 50 receptions. Playing for some pretty good offenses with the Raiders, it’s shocking that he never scored a receiving touchdown.
Jacobs can certainly find the endzone on the ground, as he has totaled 46 rushing touchdowns in five seasons, but that unfortunately might not keep him out of the record books for a distinction he doesn’t want.
With the season closing in, it will be interesting to see if the Green Bay Packers try to get Josh Jacobs a receiving touchdown in the first game or two of the season. Since he only has five receptions to work with before setting the record, there is little room for error.
While it might not be the record that Jacobs wants, he likely doesn’t care if the team can have the success they are hoping for this season.
