Green Bay Packers Josh Myers Under Pressure to Perform in 2024

The Green Bay Packers offensive line is one positional group people will be keeping a close eye on during training camp. There isn’t anything set in stone yet, but one player in particular who could use a strong camp is Josh Myers.

The starting center for the Green Bay Packers the last two seasons, Josh Myers struggled mightily in 2023. Entering the last season of his rookie contract, 2024 will be a make-or-break campaign.

A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, there have been flashes of excellent play. But, those flashes haven’t occurred often enough. Inconsistency is a major reason that Josh Myers could be in the chopping block.

As shared by Brandon Carwile of Packers Wire, the incumbent center is one of the players who has to perform well in 2024. That starts with training camp, as the Green Bay Packers added depth to the position this offseason and could consider a position change for one of their emerging stars.

“In April, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that some people inside the organization believe offensive lineman Zach Tom has Hall-of-Fame potential as a center. Tom has only logged four snaps at center during his NFL career but was considered one of the top center prospects coming out of Wake Forest. Coupled with the fact that Green Bay used a 2024 draft pick on another prospect with center experience in Duke’s Jacob Monk, the team could be preparing to move on from Myers unless he has a breakout season,” Carwile wrote.

The Green Bay Packers have made it a point to cross-train several of their offensive linemen. That will give them some flexibility when it comes to figuring out the best starting alignment.

One of the players who wasn’t cross-trained is Josh Myers. If he cannot show during training camp that he should be the No. 1 center, he could not only lose his starting job but spot on the roster as well.

During the offseason program, Josh Myers has been running with the first-team offense. But, Zach Tom has not been taking part as he recovers from a pectoral injury. Star left guard Elgton Jenkins also took some snaps at center.

The competition for a starting job in the trenches is going to be stiff this offseason. The Green Bay Packers are going to play their five best guys and Josh Myers has to prove he is one of them or they will turn to someone else to fill that spot in the lineup.
