Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur Getting Coach Of The Year Buzz After Week 3 Victory

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has been one of the best coaches in the NFL over the past five years. He has had a historic win percentage but has not gotten much credit over the years. Many have pointed toward Aaron Rodgers as to why he saw so much success early in his career. However, since the future Hall-of-Famer was traded to the Jets, the team has seen success with Jordan Love. LaFleur’s finest moment has come in the past two weeks. With Love out, the team had to turn to Malik Willis. Many thought the Packers season was over, but they have gone 2-0 with Willis as the quarterback. Fans are finally starting to see the genius of the coach and are making him an early Coach of the Year candidate.

Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur Getting COTY Buzz

The Green Bay Packers made the right hire when they put Matt LaFleur in charge. He has gone 57-28 during his coaching tenure, which is a .671 winning percentage. The past two games have been a master class. He has crafted a game plan that put the Packers in a position to win. Last week against the Colts, LaFleur used every trick in the book in the running game to run all over the Colts. Against the Titans, the coach adapted. Willis was a bigger part of the game plan, and the Packers dominated wire to wire. Fans are starting to notice.

The official FanDuel account tweeted, “Matt LaFleur is the best coach in the NFL. Nothing you can do to change my mind.” Another fan said that Matt LaFleur is “so stupidly good.” One fan took it so far as to say the Green Bay Packers coach already has the end-of-season award locked up. “Matt Lafleur is currently your Coach of the Year,” one fan posted with a clip of the touchdown screen pass to Emmanuel Wilson. The offense hasn’t been the only dominant part of the team.

Defensive Resurgence

The Green Bay Packers hired Jeff Hafley as their defensive coordinator, and the early returns have been great. Today’s game against the Titans was a masterclass. The defense racked up eight sacks, which the team has had the most since 2005. They also had a pick-six and a fumble recovery. It makes it easy for Matt LaFleur to call plays when the defense is playing this way. It is the element of the team that has been missing for the past few seasons. If the defense keeps playing like this, the Packers could be a tough team to play against.

All indications are that Jordan Love is returning soon. Reports indicated he was close to playing today but the team decided to give him another week to recover. They will need him going into a huge matchup next week. Surprisingly, the Minnesota Vikings are 3-0 and they come to Lambeau Field next week. While this is far from a must-win game, winning a game against a division opponent is always good. If the Green Bay Packers are able to put together another winning season, their head coach could be taking home some hardware.
