Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Gets Insulting Ranking from PFF

The Green Bay Packers had a good feeling about Jordan Love going into the 2023 NFL season. If that were not the case, they would not have traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets prior to last year’s NFL Draft. Still, there were many questions surrounding Love and his young offense. There were many outside of the organization that believed that they had made a mistake, and for the first half of the season those doubters appeared to be right.

Through seven games, Love and the Packers were just 2-5 while looking like the young and inexperienced team they were. Love himself was completing just 57.7% of his passes and had thrown 11 touchdown passes compared to eight interceptions. He had a pedestrian 78.2 passer rating through those first seven games.

But in the season’s final 10 games, Love was on an entirely higher level of play. He led the Packers to a 7-3 record during that time, completing 68.7% of his passes while throwing 21 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions. He had a passer rating of 108.2 over that span.

By the end of the regular season, Love had a completion percentage of 64.1%, 4,159 yards passing, 32 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions to go with a respectable passer rating of 96.1.

There is no denying the fact that Love was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL last season, and could have been considered a top-three quarterback with his play in the second half of the season. Despite how well he played, PFF has ranked him outside of the top-10 on their quarterback rankings:

“Love let it rip in 2023. He was a top-10 quarterback in total passing yards, a top-five quarterback in big-time throws and a top-two quarterback in passing touchdowns during the regular season.

“But even more impressive than the raw season numbers was the context of the second half of the year. From Week 8 on, Love earned an elite 90.4 passing grade with 27 big-time throws and just 10 turnover-worthy plays. His play was elite down the stretch and into the playoffs.

“He struggled with accuracy and consistent ball placement in the first half of the season but was on fire in the second half. If how Love ended the year is closer to what we can expect of him moving forward, he will ascend this list very quickly.”

While much of what is said above is true, it should not warrant him being ranked 11th among NFL starters. After all, PFF ranked Aaron Rodgers eighth despite the fact he threw just one pass in 2023 and was woefully average in 2022.

Where Should Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Rank?

Rankings, of course, are subjective; but PFF prides themselves on using their arbitrary data and stats to create their lists.

That being said, here is where Love ranked in several statistical categories, including PFF’s own grades, in 2023:

  • Passing yards (4,159)- 7th
  • Touchdown passes (32)- 2nd
  • Passer rating (96.1)- 11th
  • QBR (62.1)- 9th
  • PFF Passing Grade (83.2)- 8th
  • PFF Offensive Grade (83.6)- 11th

Based on these numbers, it is apparent that Love is a top-10 quarterback in the NFL. Leaving him outside of the top 10 in favor of Rodgers, a 40 year-old coming off of a torn Achilles (and who had a poor season in 2022) is just not right.
