Green Bay Packers: Romeo Doubs Drawing Trade Interest From Receiver-Needy AFC Team

It appears the Green Bay Packers are not done being involved in the wide receiver trade market rumors. However, this time, instead of the Pack being the team to add a notable talent, this time, they are rumored as the team sending a talented wideout elsewhere. Shortly after trading one of their better receivers, one AFC North team is being linked with Green Bay’s Romeo Doubs.

Pittsburgh Steelers Interested in Romeo Doubs Following George Pickens Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers were the team that edged out the Green Bay Packers in the DK Metcalf sweepstakes earlier this offseason. Pittsburgh acquired Metcalf for the price of a second-round pick and immediately signed the standout pass-catcher to a massive contract extension, worth $132 million over 4 years.

While Steelers fans were excited to pair Metcalf with their own young stud at receiver, namely George Pickens, the team has now moved on from the University of Georgia product. Pickens was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys for a third-round pick earlier this week. As a result, Pittsburgh appears to be exploring options to add a new receiver to their squad, and have been reportedly interested in Romeo Doubs.

Experts Weigh in on Romeo Doubs to Pittsburgh Rumors

While nothing concrete has been said and the Doubs to Pittsburgh noise is purely rumors at this point, some analysts feel that the deal makes too much sense not to happen.

Others are reporting that a deal is not likely to materialize. ESPN’s Peter Schrager says that head coach Matt LaFleur is pleased with the wide receiver room and is not looking to move on from one of their young talents.

It’s unclear on what price the Steelers would need to meet to acquire Doubs. A productive young player with plenty of talent, it may take a mid-round draft choice. Anything higher than a Day 3 pick could potentially deter Pittsburgh. That being said, Green Bay is under no pressure to move Doubs and has no need to settle for underwhelming compensation.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (87) leaves the field after getting injured on a pass interference play commited by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Renardo Green (0) in the third quarter during their football game Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Does Aaron Rodgers Factor Into a Romeo Doubs Trade?

As some have astutely noted, if the rumors of Aaron Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh ever do materialize, that could be the fuel for the fire in terms of getting the trade done. Rodgers reportedly has a good relationship with Doubs, and importantly, has a track record of bringing in some familiar faces to the receiver room whenever he moves teams (looking at you, Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, and Allen Lazard).

Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh has gone from seemingly very likely to less and less likely as time goes by. If it were to eventually happen, it could be contingent on Pittsburgh being willing to add some familiar faces to the team and help Rodgers have some previously established chemistry on the roster.
