The oldest of NFL rivalries between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears began in 1921 has reached a new milestone. On Sunday, the Packers defeated the Bears 20-19, their 11th consecutive win, and extended the NFL’s longest-running rivalry with a new record for their longest win streak.
A Soldier Field nail bitter saw the Bears nearly snap their losing streak in the series, which the Bears hadn’t won since 2018. However, a blocked field goal by Packers rookie Karl Brooks in the closing seconds held the one-point victory. The 46-yard attempt by Chicago kicker, Cairo Santos, was blocked as time expired, leaving Packers fans celebrating another victory over their oldest rivals.
In this close battle wide receiver Christian Watson and running back Josh Jacobs had a great game on Green Bay’s offense. Watson had 150 receiving yards on four catches, which was the best game of his career, and Jacobs ran for 76 yards on 12 attempts, added a touchdown, and got 58 receiving yards. Quarterback Jordan Love passed for 261 yards, was picked off once, and rushed for the go-ahead touchdown to give the Packers the lead.
Since joining the Packers in 2019, coach Matt LaFleur restarted the win streak and has never lost to the Bears. Green Bay also has the second-longest win streak of 10 for the same rivalry from 1994-1998; it marks the second-longest winning streak in the NFL.
As the regular season approaches its end, the Packers will have a chance to extend their streak when they host the Bears at Lambeau Field on January 5. Sunday’s dramatic finish to the game added another thrilling chapter to this historic rivalry which sees Green Bay dominating Chicago.
As for now, the Packers remain the only team with an 11-game win streak—a mark, which speaks of the team’s continued dominance within one of football’s most storied rivalries.
