One of the best parts about the Green Bay Packers having such a prominent social media presence is that it allows us fans to get to know the individual players better. While more tradition
al forms of media also give players a chance to share their personality, such as interviews on the field after a game or chats with sports news outlets, social media frequently has an air of spontaneity and authenticity that other platforms don’t always capture. A recent TikTok posted by the official Green Bay Packers TikTok page helps to highlight exactly why having this authenticity from the players is so fun and gratifying for fans.
Green Bay Packers Share Their Controversial Opinions in New TikTok
The above video is an example of the Green Bay Packers social media team putting the players and their unique personalities on display. Each player in the video gets a brief moment to shine as they share their answer to the prompt: What is a topic that you could debate for hours?
Some players choose to answer with a more lighthearted response, such as offensive lineman Sean Rhyan stating that “the beach is the best place to live,” long snapper Matt Orzech answering that the Lord of the Rings films are the “Greatest movie trilogy of all time,” or wide receiver Romeo Doubs claiming that “pineapples don’t belong on pizza.” These more low-stake answers shows that these players are ready to engage with questions like this in a fun, non-serious manner while still demonstrating some of their personal preferences, which is a fun tidbit of information for Packers fans to have.
Other players are a bit less specific with their answers. In response to the prompt, cornerback Jaire Alexander states that he could “really debate on what’s really important in life with people.” On a less serious note, defensive tackle Rashan Gary responds with “probably food for sure.” While these statements are less definitive declarations of opinion when compared to other player’s responses, they still give fans a glimpse into the player’s personalities by showing what was most on their mind when the question was posed to them. While Alexander is pondering what is most important in life, Gary is more likely to be thinking about food, which is personally very relatable to this Packers fan.
Some players, like linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, opt to share more controversial opinions. “The earth is flat,” states Cooper in response to the prompt, followed by a hasty “alright, let me explain…” After including some quick reasoning for his belief, safety Evan Williams challenges Cooper by saying “that was questionable right there” regarding Coopers response. While it is likely that many fans disagree with Cooper’s assertion that the earth is flat, the energy around Coopers “hot take” and his teammate’s questioning of it is largely playful, allowing Packers fans to not only see what the players believe in, but also how they interact with each other, which is always a treat.
