The helmet is rumored to be painted to look like a leather helmet
Earlier this offseason, it was announced that the Green Bay Packers will receive a new set of uniforms in 2026 with Nike’s new “NFL Rivalries” campaign. Now, Andrew Lind of SportsLogos.Net is reporting that the Packers will also have a new helmet in 2025, separate from their NFL Rivalries set next year.
According to Lind, the helmet will be worn with Green Bay’s 1950s throwback uniforms, which previously featured a blank yellow helmet and grey facemask. If you needed a reminder, the 1950s uniforms were the green jerseys with yellow numbers and stripes, with green pants.
Lind states that the belief is that the Packers are “on the verge of wearing the first airbrushed helmet in NFL history, one that mimics the yellow leather helmets the franchise wore in 1950.” Football teams have worn airbrushed “leather” helmets in the past, with the University of Illinois probably doing it the best recently.
Lind previously reported that the retail helmets “will come at an increased price point” compared to other helmets that the NFL sells, which hints at the effort that has to go in with the paint job.
Zach Cohen, who reported last month that the Packers were getting a helmet unlike people have seen before, stated after Lind’s article that the complexity of the design of Green Bay’s new helmet almost caused it to miss the league’s deadline for use this season.
Last July, the Packers’ white helmet leaked via a Madden trailer, so we might have to wait another month or so before we get a look at this fake leather helmet.
