Actor Bella Ramsey has revealed the importance Finding Nemo played in helping her relax from her new gritty prison drama Time. The Last of Us actor stars as pregnant convict Kelsey in the “high stakes” drama which hits screens next week.
Bella, who studied acting at Loughborough's Stagecoach Theatre, reveals the importance of the Disney Pixar classic in an interview on the BBC's The Graham Norton Show, which airs tonight. The 20-year-old actor tells Graham that Time, which was filmed in Liverpool, was a first for her on many levels.
She said: “I look about 14, so this is the first time I have played someone my age. It was also the first time I was on set without my mum being my chaperone. I stayed on my own in Liverpool, so it was a lot of firsts. I didn’t go wild, I just watched Finding Nemo – it was key to leaving the role behind.”
The second series of Time sees Bella star alongside former Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker and The Long Song’s Tamara Lawrance as a group of three new inmates who all arrive at all-female prison Carlingford on the same day. The trio will form a close bond, but will face an “ever-present threat of violence” along the way.
Bella’s Kelsey is no stranger to prison life, but is faced with the biggest struggle she has ever faced when she is confronted with the fact she is pregnant while behind bars. Show bosses have said she will be left with making a “life-defining decision”.
The role is Bella’s first major TV gig since the breakout success of The Last of Us which aired to great acclaim earlier this year. She received acclaim from both critics and viewers, with a second season of the hit show already promised.
