With the New York Jets' regular-season opener just over a week away, and star pass rusher Haason Reddick still a holdout from team practices, one of the sides will likely need to make a crucial decision in order for Reddick to take the field before the season begins.
Now, according to the Bleacher Report NFL Scouting Department's rankings of the upcoming free agent class, Reddick may be able to get the lucrative contract he's searching for if he pursues it next offseason. In the ranking, the department placed Reddick as the ninth-best free agent in the 2025 class.
In the piece, they project that Reddick could land a two-year, $53 million contract next offseason. However, the piece makes it clear that in order for him to command a contract of that magnitude, he likely needs to actually take the field for the Jets this upcoming season.
Since being acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round pick in April, Reddick has yet to participate in a practice with the Jets as he looks for a new contract. While Reddick claims that he will not show up for the team until he receives that contract, the Jets claim that they will not begin negotiations with Reddick until he shows up, putting the sides at a stalemate.Regardless of if Reddick and the Jets reach a resolution or not, the team will open their season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 9.
