“Bachelor” Nation has another bundle of joy on the way! Hannah Ann Sluss and her NFL husband, Jake Funk, are preparing to welcome their first child together this November, a representative for the couple confirmed exclusively to People on June 22. The 29-year-old reality star and 27-year-old Detroit Lions running back discovered they were expecting during an international getaway that made the moment even more special.
“We found out we were expecting during a trip to Dubai,” Sluss shared with People. “It was such an unexpected and joyful surprise! A moment we’ll always treasure. I will be sharing Jake’s reaction video soon, it was so funny!”
The couple, who celebrated their wedding in a romantic Italian countryside ceremony last June, initially decided to keep their pregnancy news private. Being in another country when they learned about the baby gave them time to process the life-changing revelation together before sharing with loved ones.
Sharing the Special News
After experiencing some early pregnancy symptoms, Sluss waited until she reached a more comfortable stage before revealing their exciting announcement. “We waited until I was around 12 weeks, once I started feeling a bit better,” she explained to the outlet. “We shared the news at a family party, and it was the best surprise! Everyone was so excited and incredibly supportive.”
Now well into her second trimester, the expectant mother reports feeling much better after a challenging start. “The first trimester was all about rest and sticking to the basics – work, walks and taking care of Dash,” she told People, referencing their dog. “I had a lot of food aversions, and almost everything tasted off except fruit (which I’ve always loved!).”
The couple has already begun preparing for their November arrival, particularly considering the timing coincides with cold and flu season. Sluss has partnered with Zarbee‘s to ensure they have safe, gentle products ready for their newborn.
Preparing for Parenthood
As first-time parents, both Sluss and Funk are approaching every decision thoughtfully. “As first-time parents, we’ve been doing our homework and being super intentional about everything that will go in and on our little one,” Sluss shared with the publication. The couple is also carefully considering name options that hold personal significance.
“We’ve started talking names and love the idea of choosing one that’s meaningful and tied to family in some way,” she revealed to People.
Their love story began in 2022, leading to Funk’s romantic proposal during a Mexico vacation in January 2023. The NFL player coordinated with her parents beforehand, making the engagement even more meaningful.
Looking ahead to parenthood, Sluss shared their gratitude for this new chapter. “So thankful,” she told People. “Becoming parents is the greatest gift, and we’re just in awe of God’s goodness in this season.”
