“The Last of Us” Season 2 is expected to arrive in April 2025. Ahead of the new season, an HBO executive has recently revealed just how long they expect the series to run.
The second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us “will only adapt part of The Last of Us Part II, with showrunner Craig Mazin having teased that the story may require a couple of seasons.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi gave Deadline an update on the series’ endgame. Orsi stated, “We don’t have a complete or final plan, but I think it’s looking like four seasons. I wouldn’t want to confirm that, but it’s looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we’re done.”
That supports Mazin’s recent statement: ” “I think it’s pretty likely that our story will extend past a Season 3. How far past? I can’t say.”
As for what to expect in the upcoming season, Orsi adds, “There’s certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it.“
HBO’s “The Last of Us “takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Season 2 of “The Last of Us“ will see returning cast members Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members include Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
The lineup of directors for Season 2 includes Mark Mylod (“Succession,“ The Menu) alongside Nina Lopez-Corrado (Perry Mason), Stephen Williams (Watchmen), and Kate Herron (Loki). They join returning directors Mazin, Peter Hoar, and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann.
