Martin Fehervary landed one of, if not the, biggest hits of his career against the Colorado Avalanche, Friday night.
Stepping up at the blue line, Fehervary demolished Casey Mittelstadt to the ice, breaking his stick in the process.
If ice hockey hits were paintings, this would be Rembrandt’s The Storm on the Sea of Galilee. (Sorry, I was an art history minor.)
Fehervary’s hit not only got ooo’s and ah’s from the crowd, it also got rave reviews from Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin during the Monumental Sports Network telecast of the game.
“Ho hoooo!!!” Laughlin yelled. “Not only smokes him but snaps his stick.”
“That one was a crackerjack,” Beninati added. And might I add, there was no toy inside.
Coming into the game, Fehervary sat third in hits on the Capitals with 37, trailing only Tom Wilson (44) and Alex Ovechkin (40).
