The Dallas Cowboys are currently one of the biggest laughingstocks in the NFL because they still haven't signed Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to new contracts. Yes, both Prescott and Lamb are expected to re-up with the Cowboys, but that's not the point. This should have been taken care of months ago, if not last year.
Contract negligence aside, there's a lot to be excited about with the Cowboys. Thanks to their domination of the NFC East, they have a pretty clear path to the playoffs.
The Commanders may no longer be a pushover, but what exactly is stopping Dallas from sweeping their rivals once again? Let's not forget that Prescott and Co. beat Washington twice last year by a combined score of 83-20.
Meanwhile, the Giants could be one of the worst teams in football yet again. While they added intriguing talent this offseason, they still have Daniel Jones at quarterback. Entering a last-chance season with New York, Jones is already going viral for screwing up the simplest of passes.
Awful Daniel Jones pass is going viral and Cowboys fans are loving it
In Jones' defense ... wait, who are we kidding?. There's no defending that sequence from the Giants' incumbent starter. Dump-off passes to a running back are among the easiest throws in a quarterback's catalog, and yet Jones overshot Devin Singletary by a good five feet. It wasn't close.
The Giants' blitz was in hot pursuit of Jones. The clip didn't show the full field, but a completed pass likely would have gone for a big gain or at the very least a first down. However, Jones lacked composure and tossed a floater that a 6-foot receiver would have struggled to haul in.
If this was a game against the Cowboys, chances are that pass turns into a pick-six. With Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence bringing pressure off the edge, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland would be camping in the flat waiting for Jones to telegraph a rushed pass.
There is no way to prove that, obviously, but who remembers that a similar pass to Saquon Barkley last season resulted in a Cowboys' defensive touchdown? Diggs blasted Barkley to jar the ball loose and Bland was waiting to pluck it out of the air and return it for six. History could repeat itself this year.
Granted, this was only one throw from the first day of camp. Jones is coming off ACL surgery, so some rust is to be expected. However, it could also be a sign of things to come. If it is, the Cowboys' long-standing dominance over the Giants will extend another season.
