The Houston Texans have been one of the busiest teams in the NFL during free agency.
They made two more huge moves Wednesday, the first being signing free agent offensive tackle Cam Robinson to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $14.5 million, reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Robinson started all 17 regular season games last season between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. Here's a quick breakdown of what Robinson brings to the table from A to Z Sports Vikings writer Tyler Forness:
"The Vikings traded for Robinson after Christian Darrisaw tore his ACL and MCL against the Los Angeles Rams in week eight. He came in and solidified the offensive line quickly for the Vikings. They won nine-straight games with Robinson at left tackle, but his flaws were a problem at the end of the season. While Robinson has 35.5” arms, he shows a tendency to overset and inside moves and counters can beat him relatively easily. That factor is a big reason why he allowed 17 pressures over the final two games. If you have a good left guard next to him, those issues will be minimized."
After acquiring Robinson, Houston re-signed Danielle Hunter to one-year extension worth $35.6 million, making him the second-highest paid defensive end in the NFL behind only Maxx Crosby.
These moves come off the heels of Houston making Derek Stingley Jr. the highest paid defensive back in league history with a three-year, $90 million deal. Hunter recorded 12 sacks, 23 quarterback hits, 46 total tackles (17 for loss), and one forced fumble in 2024. Hunter is a former All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowler. Our Kole Noble wrote about the importance of Houston bringing back Hunter in 2025:
"The 30-year-old veteran still has one more year remaining for 2025, plus three void years tacked onto the contract. Getting ahead of this and tacking on another year or two to the deal would be wise for the Texans and Hunter. He's still in the prime of his career and has been one of the most consistent edge rushers in the league."
The Texans have made good use of free agency to fill as many roster holes as possible before heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. They are looking pretty well set on defense, but could still use some impact players along the offensive line. The signing of Robinson won't likely deter them from selecting a LT of the future with one of their early round picks.
