The Houston Texans do need to beef up their wide receiver room through the 2025 NFL Draft. What they have right now simply won't get it done, especially with Tank Dell possibly missing most of the 2025 season if not all of it.
And, you could make the case that even with a healthy Dell, having the receiver room they have just wouldn't be enough. They have added Justin Watson, Christian Kirk, and Braxton Berrios this offseason, but I expect at least one more wide receiver to be added through the draft, maybe two more.
The Texans are picking at pick No. 25 in the 2025 NFL Draft, which leaves them with the potential to get one of the better wide receivers in this draft, or go offensive line. Now, I think they will be going with an offensive lineman at the pick, but you truly never know what can happen. In this case, if they were to go with a receiver, we could see guys like Emeka Egbuka, Luther Burden, and Matthew Golden as the guys who may be on the board.
And now that there is some controversy, the best receiver in the draft could fall to the Texans, but the Texans should stay away from him.
Texans should stay away from Tet McMillan
Tetairoa "Tet" McMillan is considered the best wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, coming out of the University of Arizona. Standing at 6’5” and 215 pounds with great speed and catching ability, he seems to be the guy that everyone wants. Well, was the guy that everyone wants.
In three years with Arizona, he recorded 3,414 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns. His last two seasons were especially strong, with over 1,200 yards each year, making him one of the top college receivers.
McMillan is a versatile and polished player. He’s excellent at catching tough passes, using his height and reliable hands to win battles with defenders. He ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. His route running is sharp and physical, helping him get open, and he’s made big plays, like a 78-yard touchdown against New Mexico in 2024.
McMillan started for three years at Arizona and entered the draft early. At 21 years old, he’s viewed as a complete player with the potential to be a team’s main receiver right away. But, while he is a top talent in the draft and easily the best receiver in this draft, he has one huge flaw that will likely make him fall in the draft.
Recently, a clip was posted of him just blatantly admitting that he does watch football, and he can't watch film. He doesn't like to watch film, and it seems like his mindset is that he shouldn't have to if he does it with his receiver coach during practice. And that's not the mindset you want any player to have, let alone a wide receiver who won't just get by in the NFL off of pure talent.
The Texans are trying to close the gap between them and teams like the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC. They have to get this pick right.
