During The Walking Dead franchise's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, a trailer for the spin-off series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon—The Book of Carol was released, revealing more about how Carol (Melissa McBride) gets to France in season 2 of the Norman Reedus-led show. The fifth spin-off in the post-apocalyptic franchise, Daryl Dixon is set after the events of The Walking Dead's series finale. After leaving the Commonwealth, Daryl is captured and smuggled across the Atlantic. In the series' pilot, he washes ashore in France — the origin point of The Walking Dead's zombie virus.
In the show's first outing, Daryl tries to understand how he arrived in France — and why. Although he's dead-set on returning home, Daryl finds himself drawn in to the plight of the people he meets overseas. In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1's ending, the show cuts to Freeport, Maine, where Carol, who's searching for Daryl, finds her friend's motorcycle. After capturing a hostile person with information about Daryl's whereabouts, Carol continues her search, setting up Daryl Dixon season 2's plot. Ahead of the season's premiere, the SDCC trailer clears up how, exactly, Carol arrives in France.
Carol Takes A Plane To France In Daryl Dixon Season 2
The Long-Time Walking Dead Survivor Makes A New Ally In The Process
Although the Daryl Dixon season 2 trailer spoils the reunion between Daryl and Carol, it also provides some answers about how Carol manages to get across the Atlantic Ocean. Based on what is revealed in the two-minute trailer, Carol takes Daryl's motorcycle and searches for more information about her friend's whereabouts. Eventually, she puts the puzzle pieces together and realizes that he's overseas. In one scene, Carol meets a pilot who has access to a small biplane. After fighting off a horde of walkers in a gruesome fashion, the duo board the plane and arc out over the ocean.
...a quick shot reveals Carol standing behind Daryl, hinting that the two will have a successful reunion.
After a few clips of Daryl fighting foes, the trailer cuts to the biplane, which flies through the Alps before crash landing in a field. Almost immediately, Carol and her new comrade are attacked by walkers that were hidden beneath the grass — traps waiting to be sprung. The trailer reminds viewers of Carol and Daryl's bond, suggesting that nothing will stop Carol from finding her long-time friend. By the end of the trailer, a quick shot reveals Carol standing behind Daryl, hinting that the two will have a successful reunion before The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3.
The Walking Dead Is Gradually Loosening Its Zombie Apocalypse Travel Rules
The Ones Who Live Introduced Air Travel before Daryl Dixon's Book Of Carol
The way Carol arrives in France reveals just how much The Walking Dead is loosening its zombie apocalypse travel rules. In the original series' pilot, a helicopter appears over Atlanta, setting up a massive mystery. The Ones Who Live revealed that The Walking Dead set up the CRM in 2010 — even if it was in a retroactive way. However, everything from trains and helicopters to boats and planes have become much more commonplace as the franchise continues. While that's not necessarily a negative, it definitely casts the world of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in a new light.
