AMC has created quite the franchise around The Walking Dead series and its spinoffs. Fans of the long-running series were disappointed that it concluded with season 11 in 2022. Viewers of The Walking Dead universe long for more stories set in the same world. Will any spinoffs feature additional seasons in 2024?
AMC released the highly anticipated Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) spinoff The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live in February 2024. The limited series focused on the couple's epic love story and their part in taking down the CRM (Civic Republic Military). Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) was also featured in the series, and a surprise cross-over from Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), who was once involved with Jadis. Overall, the series gave fans everything they wanted, including the reunion between Rick and Michonne and their children Judith (Cailey Fleming) and RJ (Antony Azor).
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is the second direct spinoff of the main series, which focuses on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). This spinoff continues Daryl's story as he journeys to France against his will and plans to return home. His plan is postponed when he meets a group, the Union of Hope who desperately need his assistance in delivering a young boy who they believe will save humanity.
The series was renewed for a second season, which will be subtitled The Book of Carol where Melissa McBride will reprise her role as Carol Peletier. Her story begins in the States as she searches for Daryl, who was supposed to return to the Commonwealth and never did. The upcoming season will continue to see Daryl in France as he fights against the Power of the Living.
The Daryl Dixon series has been renewed for season 3, and Reedus has shared that a fourth season is likely also on the way.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 29, 2024.
The Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) focused spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City began filming for its second season in 2024. Filming for the next installment of the spinoff was moved from New Jersey to Massachusetts, but don't expect to see a new episode of the eight-episode season 2 of Dead City until 2025.
The second season will see the return of many characters, including Maggie, Negan, Hershel (Logan Kim), The Croat (Željko Ivanek), The Dama (Lisa Emery), Gaius Charles (Perlie Armstrong), and more. Kim Coates of Sons of Anarchy fame has been announced to join the cast as Bruegel, a leader of a fierce gang in Manhattan.
