How to Unlock Every No Return Mode Character in The Last of Us 2 Remastered

A new mode added to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered called No Return puts you in a series of rogue-like survival missions, which you can tackle with characters you unlock from previous runs. These heroes all have unique abilities and weapons to take advantage of. Mixing and matching gear at the Hideout with these characters will help you make the perfect build for your next run.

How to Unlock Every No Return Mode Character in The Last of Us 2 Remastered

Every run in TLOU 2 Remastered's No Return has permadeath, which means your character loses all their weapons, items, and upgrades accumulated from different mission scenarios. While you do get to choose the encounters you engage with, some characters might be better for specific challenge types. For example, Dina has stun bomb recipes at the start of the run and can be great in Capture or Holdout situations.

You can unlock eight playable heroes in TLOU 2 Remastered, but each has prerequisites you must fulfill. You'll need to go through multiple run encounters with different characters to receive other heroes as one of your rewards. This process is simple but can take a long time if you are constantly losing your equipment by failing runs too fast.

The strongest playable characters in No Return depend on their starting skills, but you can make any hero better by grabbing different gear throughout a run. Keep in mind that different challenge types will have different loot based on the enemies and environments.

There are four challenge types in No Return: Assault , Capture , Holdout , and Hunted . While Assault and Hunted have you survive against many enemies, Capture and Holdout have tactical objectives you must complete.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has included a lot in the No Return mode and added back many familiar areas for players to explore as well. Once you unlock every character in No Return, you'll have a wide variety of heroes to choose from as you craft the best build to overcome the boss encounters at the end of a run.
