Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL offseason, there have been a lot of reports about the contract situation between the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy.
While many of those updates have provided a doubtful outlook between the two sides, that may not be the case. They may not be close to a deal yet, but there seems to be some level of progress between them.
Ian Rapoport, one of the most respected NFL insiders in the business, has revealed a new update on Purdy.
During an appearance on the "Pat McAfee Show," Rapoport provided a much more positive outlook for the 49ers and their star quarterback.
"I've not gotten the sense that it'll get done soon, but it does at least seem like it's going in the right direction," Rapoport said. "Kittle's deal was sort of a little bit quicker. They got the Fred Warner deal. Quarterback deals usually take longer. We'll see if they get that good landing spot somewhere in the 50s to get Brock Purdy locked in long term. Is he going to sign right before training camp? And then if he doesn't, it's like, he'll hold in a lot of times. It's sort of training camp deadline. That's kind of the next thing."
Rumors have been swirling all offseason about Purdy and San Francisco parting ways. Rapoport's report should help put 49ers fans at ease.
Purdy had a bit of a down season in 2024 with the 49ers. Then again, so did the entire team.
San Francisco finished the year with a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs. This offseason, the 49ers have lost quite a bit of talent, but they are still hopeful of bouncing back strong and getting back into playoff contention.
Speaking of Purdy's 2024 season, he played in 15 games. He completed 65.9% of his pass attempts for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
