Iga Swiatek was left in disbelief after learning that she hit the 300-match wins mark on Tuesday as the Polish tennis star also achieved a remarkable Serena Williams feat in the process.
On Tuesday, the current world No. 8 - who celebrated her 24th birthday on May 31st - launched her grass swing with a 6-4 6-4 Bad Homburg win over former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
For Swiatek, it was her 372nd Tour-level match and her 300th triumph - only the great Williams needed fewer matches to get to 300 wins as the American tennis icon hit the mark after taking part in 359 clashes.
WTA celebrated the five-time Grand Slam champion's milestone on Instagram and the former world No. 1 re-posted it and captioned it: "Like... When did it happen?"
Swiatek's reaction to beating Azarenka
Swiatek struggled early on in her opening match on grass as she had only one game on the board after the opening five games. ut then, she put it in another gear and took the next five games to steal the first set from Azarenka.
In the second set, the fourth-seeded Pole lost her serve once but it was no issue since she broke the Belarusian twice to complete her win in two sets.
"The first few games, I thought I was playing really well, and I had opportunities to break her, but I didn't. I kind of got maybe less intense, but I wanted to keep doing what I know I can do, and at the end, it was a great match. It was my first match on grass this year, actually having byes in these tournaments is not always a great thing because I want to play on grass as much as possible right now, but I'm really happy that I'm through to the next round," the world No. 8 said after the win.
