Monday morning on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring Podcast” Boston Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer, Craig Breslow was interviewed about the offseason. As the Red Sox watch the playoffs from their homes again this season, the fanbase is frustrated with how frugal their home team has been in the offseason. Red Sox Nation is wondering, as they sit at home and root against the Yankees this October, after massive front office cuts and numerous penny-pinching moves where exactly this clubhouse is going this winter.
Boston Red Sox Need Aggressive Movement
With their bullpen a mess and a hit-or-miss offense this season, the Boston Red Sox find themselves filled to the gills with great young prospects. Top three of the overall MLB prospects are from the Red Sox this season which has been John Henry’s plan all along. Buy ’em cheap, sell ’em profitable. The farm prospects ranked top ten in the MLB, Roman Anthony, Mercelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell, could glean varying combinations on the trade market this offseason, but fans want more.
BoSox should find themselves in sweepstakes and turning over every rock to find the best suitable combination of trades this winter. Rounding out nearly a year of Craig Breslow being promoted to Chief Baseball Officer last November he is interested in being aggressive. Former Yale graduate may be the push that Henry needs to facilitate better buys for Boston this offseason.
Baseball Isn’t Boring
When Breslow appeared Monday morning on “Baseball Isn’t Boring Podcast” he was asked, “Do you just feel in your bones that this is going to be a more aggressive offseason?” Breslow replied, “We are preparing to be more decisive more aggressive…” He goes on to talk about the foundation built before his tenure and then speaks the words every loyal Boston Red Sox fan was waiting to hear, “It’s time to deliver to our fans the teams they’ve come to expect, the competitive level they’ve come to expect.”
Now what “time to deliver” means is subjective, especially to the Boston Red Sox front office. Fans are skeptical but this is the first time Breslow has quantified the foundation built over the last few years and now he has a hand at the table. With John Henry in his ear and the yearning to make Boston a playoff contender for the 2025 season, Breslow will do everything he can to put the Boston Red Sox in a winning position. Unless his promise to the fans falls short and the fans of Boston will never let Breslow live that down.
Breslow Is An Unknown
Considering this is his eleventh month in his position, we don’t have much of a track record on the Red Sox’s newest Chief Baseball Officer. This winter will be blistery for Breslow if he underperforms but this week’s podcast was a step in the right direction.
Most Boston Red Sox fans will wait to see action before jumping on the Breslow Bandwagon as they have been burned before. If Breslow fails to spend money this winter he will catch the heat of some of the most aggressive fans in sports. Ask John Henry. Certainly, Red Sox Nation will have its eyes peeled to see what may be in store for the 2025 season.
