Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf and veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers both find themselves in new threads this season, embarking on new chapters of their respective careers.
Metcalf spent the first six seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks until he was traded to the Steelers earlier this offseason.
Rodgers, on the other hand, spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he won a Super Bowl, before joining the New York Jets in 2023. After missing the entirety of the 2023 season, his 2024 campaign was a significant disappointment, as the Jets won just five games. He signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in June.
Meanwhile, during training camp, Metcalf revealed his feelings regarding Rodgers' behavior off the field.
An NFL reporter who covers the Steelers had the opportunity to interview Metcalf during training camp, where Metcalf opened up about Rodgers, claiming he hasn't had the chance to play video games with his new quarterback, unlike some of his other teammates.
“Y'all should check with other people on the team. They got him to pick up the sticks before me. Offended is not the word. I'm a little salty,” said Metcalf. “But no, he's a good dude off the field. Enjoy playing with him. Enjoy getting to learn from him off the field and just talking to him about life stuff. So, he's a real good dude.”
Rodgers has all the pieces in place to flip the script from last year's underwhelming performance, with Metcalf, his projected No. 1 target in 2025, having not posted less than 900 yards in a season since entering the NFL.
Steelers' DK Metcalf Has Chance To Become Top Wide Receiver In The NFL During 2025 Season
Metcalf has been a star in the making during his first six seasons in the NFL. Now, the veteran arrives in Pittsburgh for his seventh NFL season. Over those six years, Metcalf has racked up 438 catches for 6,324 receiving yards and scored 48 touchdowns. He has recorded three seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, while in the other three seasons he had 900 or more yards.
Metcalf has been consistent throughout his career, but now with Rodgers as his quarterback, he has a real chance to become one of the best wide receivers in the league. In a wide receiver room where he is the clear number one option, the time is now for Metcalf to show why he earned top receiver money. Many believe he can do it in 2025 and prove he is one of the greatest in the league. Doing it against Gardner in Week 1 would be a great message for Metcalf to send to Steeler Nation.
