‘I’m going to eat your children’ - Hendon Hooker talk reaches fever pitch in Detroit sports media

The discussion surrounding former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker reached a fever pitch on Friday in the Detroit media.

Hooker, who is entering his third season in the NFL, is battling veteran Kyle Allen for the Detroit Lions' backup quarterback job.

Allen started the Lions' preseason loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night, passing for 91 yards and two interceptions.

Hooker entered the game in the second half and passed for just 18 yards while tossing an interception.

After the game, Hooker told reporters that he was disappointed in the way he played.

“I wish we had practice tomorrow,” said Hooker. “I’m just very disappointed in myself as far as — like I was saying earlier, just leading the troops down the field and making more plays.”

Longtime Detroit media personality Terry Foster shared some thoughts on Hooker -- and fans who want the former Vol to start for the Lions over Jared Goff -- that can best be described as......wild.

"Here's another thing," said Foster on the Woodward Sports Network. "Let me get this off my chest. If I hear one more mother f-----er say, "You know, Hendon Hooker can run, I think he should take over for Jared Goff', I'm going to eat your children. I don't want to hear this. You have to understand, this is decades of frustration. Whoever the Lions' starting quarterback is, stinks. Whoever the backup is, is a star. I'm sick of hearing that s--t."

That is certainly a take.

I don't know what the vibes are in Detroit, but I can't imagine there are that many people calling for Hooker to start over Goff. Nothing against Hooker, it's just that Goff has played at an elite level for the Lions over the last couple of years. He's passed for over 4,400 yards in three straight seasons and he's 27-7 over the last two years as a starter. I guess I understand Foster's frustration if some fans (again, I can't imagine there are many people actually saying this) want a quarterback that had a 72.4 completion percentage last year benched.

Hooker, by the way, is slated to start the Lions' next preseason game (August 8 against the Atlanta Falcons). I cant wait to hear what Foster has to say about the backup quarterback battle after that matchup.
