The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are home from the NFL Scouting Combine and it's time for the team to begin evaluating roster spots in anticipation of the upcoming NFL Draft in April and free agency later this month.
The Combine is a place where owners, general managers had coaches all can get together and compare notes when appropriate, as well as meet with the media.
NBC Sports' Matthew Berry was on hand and apparently overheard many things of interest, and he's put the top 25 "most interesting things he heard" together for us.
And what he heard about the Buccaneers is of great interest, especially to running back Rachaad White, who according to Berry, could be out of a job in Tampa Bay.
"But perhaps the most interesting part of the Tampa Bay running back discussion was about Sean Tucker. 'He has the talent to be a No. 1 RB in this league,' said a team source. 'The issue is just that he’s stuck behind Bucky Irving,' wrote Berry. "Reading between the lines of the conversation, I came away thinking they love Irving, they love Tucker and aren’t as enthusiastic about Rachaad White. I bet Tucker overtakes White for the RB 2 role sooner than later."
This seems like it could be a blow to the Bucs' newfound rushing attack. But when you consider the eyeball test with Tucker, as well as how White sometimes struggled on the field in 2024, it's not outlandish at all. But what's more likely is that the team uses White as trade bait to get more draft capital or to bring in some defensive help.
Bucky Irving seems like a superstar in the making, and the Buccaneers most likely don't want anyone getting in his way.
