Insider Reveals What He’s Hearing About Tyler Shough

The New Orleans Saints have struggled to find a franchise quarterback since Drew Brees retired.

It’s nearly impossible to replace a player like that, but the Saints haven’t even been able to find someone who can hold down the position for multiple seasons.

The New England Patriots experienced this when Tom Brady left, and many teams over the past decade have floundered after losing a big-name quarterback.

Many Saints fans were encouraged when they took Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, a QB with a lot of promise coming out of Louisville.

When he was drafted, it was unclear how quickly the Saints would work him into the starting role, but NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has provided some insight.

“At least, at it’s face, they like what they got. … The right quarterback will emerge,” Rapoport said.

It seems like the Saints haven’t committed to anyone as their starter, letting the process work itself out and holding a true competition at training camp.

Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are also in the mix, and each has NFL experience.

The good news for Shough is that neither has impressed in the league so far, and if he can show the coaches that he can provide a spark to the offense, he could be their starting QB in Week 1.
