Insider’s George Kittle, Trent Williams’ Revelation Will Scare Rest of NFL

Early on at training camp for the San Francisco 49ers, much has been made of the guys who aren’t on the field, which is a story far too familiar for a team that was decimated by injuries in 2024. However, the guys who are on the field have looked great, including tight end George Kittle and left tackle Trent Williams.

49ers Make Official Decision on George Kittle, Trent Williams' Status For Week 11 - Newsweek

Kittle and Williams are two of the oldest players on San Francisco’s roster, and some folks are worried that Father Time will catch up to them soon. According to one NFL insider, though, it doesn’t seem like something that fans will have to worry about right now, as both guys have starred for the Niners to open training camp.

Kittle and Williams have both found themselves at the center of attention for different reasons entering the 2025 season. In 2024, Kittle was one of the lone bright spots for the 49ers, as he played in 15 games, catching 78 passes for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns. That earned him his fourth straight Pro Bowl selection, a spot on the All-Pro Second Team, and a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension that will give him the opportunity to finish his career in San Fran.

Williams, on the other hand, battled through an ankle injury to suit up in 10 games, but it was clear that he was not the same player the Niners are accustomed to seeing. That resulted in Williams’ streak of All-Pro First Team selections getting snapped at three, with questions about his long-term future popping up this offseason.

Kittle has faced similar questions after signing his new deal back in April, as he’s dealt with his fair share of injury woes throughout his career. Despite that, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently shared that both Kittle and Williams have been among the 49ers’ top training camp performers in the early going.

“George Kittle, somebody told me affectionately that he’s playing like he’s got a rocket up his (expletive),” Breer said. “And Trent Williams has come into camp in the best shape he’s come into a camp in a while.”

There are reasons to be concerned about the 49ers heading into the new season. They shed several talented players over the offseason, and they are already dealing with a handful of injuries at the beginning of August. According to this update from Breer, it doesn’t sound like fans should be worrying about Kittle or Williams, as they both have stood out, even though they have been in the league for quite some time now.

Considering the circumstances surrounding San Francisco, you can make an argument that Kittle and Williams have never been more important to their team than now. Both guys are being counted on heavily as the 49ers look to bounce back from their rough campaign last year, and the good news is that it sounds like they have both gotten off to a great start in training camp.
