Instagram Video Sparks Speculation On Jaire Alexander's Future

Jaire Alexander’s future in Green Bay is up in the air. He carries a big cap hit, and the Packers would reportedly take trade calls for him.

At the annual owners meetings, general manager Brian Gutekunst said, “We have some time here to figure that out and see what’s best for him and the organization.” When asked if Alexander might be on the roster in 2025, Gutekunst responded, “It could be a possibility. Absolutely.”

While the Packers weigh their options with Alexander, he's sticking to his offseason routine and spending time with his teammates.

Xavier McKinney added to the speculation by sharing an Instagram story of himself working out with Alexander.

McKinney immediately impacted in his first season with the Packers, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. Alexander, on the other hand, has struggled to stay healthy, missing 34 of the last 68 games.

Alexander's 2025 cap hit is $24.956 million. If Green Bay trades or releases him, it would free up $6.8 million in cap space.

A post-June 1 designation is possible, freeing up $17 million for 2025. However, the cap relief wouldn't kick in until June, leaving $10.2 million in dead money for 2026.

The chances of Alexander being on the final roster for the 2025 season are slim. The Packers are in a tough spot financially with their 2026 cap space, and they have several key free agents to address next offseason. Why would they allocate a significant portion of their cap to a player who is very talented but has struggled to stay on the field?

It’s an unfortunate situation for everyone. It’s not Alexander’s fault he’s had bad luck with injuries, and it’s a shame because the Packers’ secondary is so much better when he’s on the field.

Gutekunst’s comments and McKinney’s recent video have sparked speculation about Alexander’s future in Green Bay. At the end of the day, the NFL is a business, and the smartest move for the Packers is to move on from him. McKinney and Alexander must be good friends, but the fact that McKinney shared an Instagram story shouldn’t mean much when it comes to Alexander’s future.
